A Twist on the Traditional Christmas Garland

I used to wrap our banister with the traditional Christmas garland every year, but this year I wanted to do something different. I always found the traditional garland so messy. When I would wrap it around the banister, little pieces would fall off of it and be everywhere. This new garland is so easy to put up and take down, mess free, and easier to store once I pack it away.

Here is a little tutorial on how I made them. They are super simple to make, and didn’t cost a lot of money either. Everything was from Michael’s Craft Store, and on sale. The branches were 50% off, the ribbon was 60% off, and I used a 40% off coupon for the Command Hooks.

Here is a step by step tutorial on how I made this garland…

What you will need:

*Christmas Picks

*Wired Ribbon

* Garden pruners/wire cutters

*Command Hooks

Step 1- Using a wire cutter, or garden pruners, cut the branch leaving about 1/2 inch at the bottom.

Step 2- Using whatever ribbon you like, tie a bow around the end of the branch. I used a 2 1/2 inch gold ribbon that was wired, so I could shape my bows easily. Then just trim the ends to your desired length.

Step 3- Using Command Hooks, I added 1 to every other spindle. Then I just hooked the ribbon from the back of the bow on each hook.  That’s it!

Happy Friday! I can’t believe December 1st is tomorrow! Do you have all your Christmas decorations up? Our tree has been up for a while now, but I have finally finished decorating the rest of the house.  I love my house at Christmas time, it’s just so pretty. I also love playing Christmas music while I am cooking dinner, and cleaning the house. Tonight I am hosting a Cookie Exchange Party at my house with a few of my girlfriends. I hosted one a couple of years ago, and it was so much fun. Everyone will walk away with 96 cookies, so that will give me a great start to my Christmas baking!

Speaking of Christmas, with Christmas parties, get together’s, and events approaching for the holidays, I think this grey sweater dress would be a great option. Pairing it with a red clutch, and some jewelry will really make it festive. This dress is extremely soft, and so warm. I love that it has a turtle neck, and an all over ribbed detailing to give the dress some texture. It has a very relaxed fit, so you can even dress it down with a pair of leggings for a more comfortable feel.

Ankle boots, knee high boots, or a pair of dressy heels, it doesn’t matter because it will all go well with this dress! I am going to get so much use out of this dress, and for under $60 that’s a great deal!

Our Staycation at The Chelsea Hotel, Toronto!

A few weeks ago, we headed to The Chelsea Hotel, Toronto for a fun family staycation. There are so many advantages to a staycation, you don’t have to travel far, the cost is a lot lower, less to pack, and I find it less stressful than heading on a regular family vacation.

I didn’t even know this until we checked- in, but The Chelsea Hotel, Toronto is the largest hotel in Canada! Yup, it has 1,590 guest rooms, and 3 restaurants. It’s also Toronto’s family hotel offering kid friendly accommodations, and activities, which made the kids stay just that much more exciting!

Checking- in at The Chelsea Hotel, Toronto was very easy, and pretty standard for an adult, but if you are a child, they make it extra special. They actually have a separate Check-In just for kids, where they can check-in themselves by banging on a gong, and then choosing a prize out of the toy chest. This is the first hotel I have been to that offers something like that to kids, and I have to say it was a big hit!

As soon as we got to our room, the kids started running around so excited, because they couldn’t believe how big the room was. We stayed in the Family Fun Suite that had a living room, a full size kitchen, and 2 bedrooms. The first bedroom had a queen bed, and the other  bedroom had a twin bed, with a double murphy bed. It also had a private outdoor balcony with a view of the CN Tower, a kids corner with a table and toys, 3 TV’s, a DVD player, and XBOX with free movies, and games.

I couldn’t believe how much the room was geared towards kids. They even had a potty seat, a step stool, and Johnson’s bath products in the bathroom, plus some Oreo cookies waiting for them in the kitchen!

The hotel had 3 restaurants to choose from to eat at. After we checked in, we had lunch at the Market Garden located in the lobby, and for breakfast when we woke up the next day. It was buffet style, so it gave us a lot to choose from.

For dinner, we went to Scaddabush which was conveniently located right across the street from the hotel. It was so perfect. We didn’t have to walk far with the kids at all. Plus, they wanted to hurry back to the hotel to enjoy all the fun kids activities they had to offer. We also saved 15% off our bill by showing them our room key. You can save on many other Toronto Attractions by showing your room key, see the full list here.

Ah the Family Fun Zone! This is where we spent most of our time during our stay, and for good reason because it was so much fun! First, they have a Kids Centre filled with activities for kids. They have a craft table, games, toys, books, 2 bunnies, a play structure, and a TV. For all the teens and adults, they have a Club 33 Teen Lounge with a pool table, foosball table, arcade games, a TV and 2 XBOX 360’s.

Something fun for everyone is the family pool. They have an indoor heated pool, plus a whirlpool, and a fun corkscrew waterside!

They also have an adults only pool, and fitness centre on the 27th floor. It has a beautiful sundeck for the summer months that has an amazing view of the CN Tower.

The Chelsea Hotel, Toronto is in a very central location. It’s steps away from the Toronto Eaton Centre, and close to so many of the city’s top attractions, and restaurants.

I forgot to mention, after we checked out of the hotel, we went to the Toronto Santa Claus Parade. The route was walking distance from the hotel which was perfect! The kids had such a great time. There were so many cute floats this year!

Hope everyone had a great weekend! We just got back from a fun staycation at the Chelesa Hotel in Toronto, which I can’t wait to share on the blog soon. They kids had so much fun sleeping in a room together, it was so cute!

I have never gotten more compliments on any sweater more than this one. I can’t even begin to tell you how comfortable, and cozy it is. The fleece is so soft, and I love the quilted satin detail on the chest, and elbows. It comes in 6 colours- I got the Cream with Olive Green one. I love the snap buttons at the top too. I sometimes button them all up on colder days, or only button up 1/2 on more mild days.

I spend 3 days a week in an arena for my son’s hockey, and this sweater has been my go-to since the temperature has dropped. I styled it with my skinny jeans here,  but I have also worn it with leggings as well. It’s a great pullover to wear on the way to the gym over athleisure wear too!

Savoury Bites and Flights Tour with Crush on Niagara Wine Tours!

One thing I love to do in the Summer, and Fall is head to Niagara-on-the-lake for a wine tour. My husband, and I love wine, so it makes a perfect date day! Last year for our anniversary, we booked a tour with Crush on Niagara Wine Tours and did the Breaking Bread and Building Brix Tour in Niagara-on- the-lake in the summer. You can read the post, here. It was a full day, and we loved it so much!

This year we wanted to try something different, so we booked a wine tour in the Fall with some friends in the Bench, which was an area in Niagara that we have never been before. This tour was called Savoury Bites & Flights which was 1/2 day, and consisted of 5 stops in total- 4 winery visits, and a Cheese company.

First up was Flat Rock Cellars. They had one of the most beautiful views I have ever seen at a winery. You walked in, and straight ahead was a gorgeous view of Lake Ontario, and a balcony overlooking their vineyard! While sipping on wine and enjoying that view, we moved on inside and got a tour of their green geo thermal facility.

Next we stopped at Upper Canada Cheese Company. Here we got to sample a variety of cheese including an artisan cheese made from a herd of prized “Guernsey” cows.

At Di Profio Wines, we got to sit out back under a gazebo enjoying the view of their vineyard, and snacking on a couple of charcutiere boards they provided. They gave us a little history on the winery, while we tasted a few of their delicious wines.

From there the next winery we visited was Back 10 Cellars. Here we got to sample 4 of their wines- some red, and some white.

Finally our last stop of the day was Vineland Estate Winery. The grounds of this winery were so beautiful. They had a great selection of wines to sample. We also learned they have a restaurant, and a bed and breakfast on site which we will definitely take advantage of next time around.

It was such a great tour. I couldn’t believe how beautiful, and quiet the Bench area was. Way less touristy!

The tours are also in small groups as well. Nothings too big. They also offer complementary pick up at their central pick up locations.
