Early Christmas Gift to Mediveal Times Dinner in Tournament in Toronto+ GIVEAWAY!

It’s that time of year again, yup Christmas is around the corner! I don’t know about you,  but I find my kids get a ton of toys at Christmas. Between us, the grandparents, and our aunts and uncles, it sometimes gets to be too much. That’s why every year we only buy them a couple of toys, and give them more “experiences” as a gift. This year, we decided to surprise our kids with VIP tickets to Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament as an early Christmas gift.

Experience gifts are such a great way to spend some quality time as a family, and give them something that they will remember for a lifetime.

Since the doors opened 75 mins before the show, we made sure we arrived nice and early, because there is lots to do, and we didn’t want to be rushed. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted as “Lords” & “Ladies” and then headed over to a table to pick up our VIP passes, and crowns. We also had the option to get our picture taken as well.

Once we were done checking in, we got some drinks at the bar, and watched a pre-show that they had going on. People who were celebrating a birthday were “Knighted” in front of us all. They also have an area to view all the horses, so we went and checked that out as well. There are several souvenirs to purchase such as light up swords, roses etc.

There are 3 upgraded packages you can choose from to make your experience more memorable; Queens’s Royalty Package, Celebration Package or the Royalty Package. We got the Queen’s Royalty Package, which gave us priority castle access, VIP first row all section seating or second row in centre section, priority seating access, cheering banner, VIP lanyard, as well as a framed entrance group photo. I highly recommend upgrading – it’s so worth it!!

Each section is divided by colour. The colour of your crown indicates which section you will be sitting in, and which knight you will be cheering for. Since our crowns were yellow, we sat in that section, and cheered for that Knight.

For dinner, we had tomato soup and garlic bread to start.  Our main course was a 1/2 chicken,  roasted potato, and corn. For dessert, we had ice cream with caramel sauce. The food is soooo good! Plus, you get so much!! Everything is eaten without utensils, but you can request a fork if you’d rather not use your hands.

Of course the kids favourite part was the sword fighting. They loved how the mesh screen came down in front of us to protect us, and they loved seeing the sparks from the swords.

What made the night even extra special was when our yellow knight won, and we all started to scream and cheer! What’s cool is whichever knight wins, they will come to your section with the queen, and pick out a female in the crowd to be the Queen of Love and Beauty! The knight presents them with a sash, crown, and they also get a photo together with the knight that won.

Such a great show, and a perfect night spent together!

With the temperatures starting to drop, it’s definitely feeling more like Fall outside. I love dressing for Fall because you can wear layers, and don’t really need to wear a jacket yet.

This leopard print cardigan is my first purchase for Fall, and I have to say I am so impressed with the quality of it. I love that it has pockets, and that it’s a bit stretchy which makes me more comfy. It’s so versatile, it can be dressed up or dressed down. For a more casual look, I am wearing it here with jeans, but I can’t wait to also wear it with my leather pants for a more dressed up look! It comes in 5 other colours too!

I hope everyone has a great weekend! We are celebrating Thanksgiving this weekend instead of next weekend, because it’s what worked best with everyone’s schedule. My son also starts hockey this weekend, so the craziness is about to start. Between hockey, rep baseball, and my daughter’s swimming lessons and dance, I feel like I am going to be running around the city every night of the week! lol!

Weekend getaway at Sherkston Shores!

A couple of weeks ago, we took a short drive to Sherkston Shores Beach Resort & Campground for a little family getaway. With how fast our summer flew by, it was great to end it with a weekend away with the kids, before it was time for them to head back to school.

The resort was located just 90 minutes from Toronto on Lake Erie, so it was nice to stay local and enjoy time away as a family.

There was so much to do on the resort. Not only do you have access to 4 beaches, but they have a pool area with water slides, mini golf, arcades, volleyball, basketball, pickleball, tennis, water sports and so much more!

The resort is on 560 acres, which is exclusive to renters, campers, seasonal RVers, and vacation cottage owners and their guests. We stayed in one of their premium 2 bedroom cottages that you can rent. The master bedroom had a queen size bed, the second bedroom had bunk beds for the kids, and their was a pull out couch in the family room area. It also had a full size kitchen with appliances, and a large deck with a table. There was also upgraded cable, and free wifi in the cottage as well.

We stayed in the Dunes area on the resort which I highly recommend, because it was steps away from the beach!

Checking into the resort was a breeze. They gave us a map of the resort, so we could find our cottage easily as well as a calendar that told us everything that was going on at the resort that weekend.

Getting around the resort was so fun! Right beside the welcome center you can rent a golf cart during your stay. The kids just loved it! I recommend calling in advance to reserve one as they do sell out fast. Driving around in a golf cart was definitely the way to get around and explore the resort. They even allow you to take them on the beach! Charging them was so easy as well, they have a charging station outside your cottage, so each night we would charge it so it was fully charged for us to use in the morning.

Located just outside of the welcome center is the Family Funplex. This is where the pool area was that had a splash pad,  3 water slides, 2 pools, and a hot tub. They also had a bar area to grab drinks.

Inside the Funplex was a Boston Pizza, arcade area, a LIVE Lounge, and a cafe that sold sandwiches and ice cream. Around the other side they also had a supermarket if you wanted to buy and make meals in your cottage. Or Boston Pizza will deliver to your cottage if you don’t feel like cooking or going out.

The spot the kids loved to hang out the most was at the man-made beach in the middle of the resort. It had soft sand, and beautiful clear water. The kids loved building sandcastles, and playing in the water. We spent a lot of time here.

Also every Saturday night they have a fireworks show here which is amazing! We brought some blankets and jackets, and watched the fireworks from the beach. The kids loved it! They put on quite an amazing show, so don’t miss it during your stay.

After dinner it was so nice to walk the beach and enjoy the sunsets. The kids also loved looking for bright coloured rocks to take home, and also skipping stones on the water.

I don’t know about you , but I am hanging onto summer for as long as a can. Even though the temperatures are starting to get a little bit cooler, it isn’t stopping me from wearing shorts and a tank top. I am not ready for Fall, and I think that’s because we had such a late start to our summer.

It’s a busy weekend over here because we are in back to school mode. I am organizing the kids rooms this weekend, and making sure we have everything checked off our list for school on Tuesday. I am going to miss the kids at home with me all day, but I must say, I am really looking forward to going back to a routine. Plus, it’s hard to work everyday when the kids are home, so I am behind on blog posts.

This lace top is one of my favourites. It has such a pretty design on it. I paired it with some black shorts here,  but it’s going to look so good with my black leather pants this Fall. Hope everyone is having a great long weekend!

KidZfest at Canada’s Wonderland!

Kidzfest at Canada's Wonderland on Livin' Life with Style

Last weekend we headed to Canada’s Wonderland for KidZfest, and we had an absolute blast! We took the kids a few years ago, and remembered how much they loved it, so we decided to take them back again. If you are not familiar with what KidZfest is, it’s basically a special celebration for kids. It runs from July 22 to August 5, and it’s included with your park admission, so there is no additional cost.

During KidZfest they have live entertainment, a dance party, foam pits, and special visits from your favourite TV characters. When we were there the kids got to meet and get a photo with some Paw Patrol pups, and Iron Man.  Throughout KidZfest they have other characters to meet such as Thomas & Friends, Toopy & Binoo, ALVINNN!!! and The Chipmunks, Bob the Builder, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Dora the Explorer, and other MARVEL Superheros.

Even if you don’t go during KidZfest, just taking the kids to Planet Snoopy & KidZville they will have so much fun! There are so many rides for them, and a ton of games to play. The Peanut gang is also always wandering around the park as well. The kids love getting in pictures with them, hugging them, and giving them high fives!

Having a Mad Science Birthday Party!

My son’s favourite subject in school is Science. Ever since he was in grade 1, he would come home each week, and was so excited to tell me what he learned in Science class that day. Even his teachers would tell me how much he loved the subject during parent/teacher interviews, and on his report card. So when he turned 8 at the end of June, he of course requested a science themed birthday party. So off I went to start planning and ordered a science themed cake, and picked up science themed party decor and supplies. I wanted to find something that would entertain the kids, and I came across Mad Science online, and saw that they offered birthday party packages!

Mad Science birthday parties have a certified Mad Scientist that will come out to your venue or home, and give kids a chance to participate in cool science experiments. Once I told my son about this he was so excited, and I booked it right away! Even all his friends were excited when he told them at school. I also got multiple text messages from parents saying how excited their child was for the party, and how unique the idea was!

Mad Science has locations throughout Canada, and US and internationally too. We booked my son’s party with Mad Science of Toronto which has 4 party packages to choose from: Milliwatt, Kilowatt, Megawatt, and Gigawatt. Each party ranges from 60- 75 mins depending on which package you choose.

I went with the Gigawatt package which was a 75 minute show for the kids. It included 2 upgrades as well- Dry Ice, and either Cotton Candy or a Rocket Launch. My son chose the Rocket Launch!

The package also included a Take Home Experiment for each child, and the birthday child got a t-shirt, and gift as a little something extra to take home.

The Dry Ice experiments were so cool. The kids learned about the temperatures of dry ice, and the three states of matter. They saw a coin dance, scissors sizzle, saw bubbling bubbles, and even had a dry ice shower!

My son was able to choose from 3 Take Home Experiments to make at his party- Slime, Silly Putty or a High-bouncing polymer ball.

He chose to make bouncing balls, and all the kids had so much fun making them. They even came with a Mad Science cup with a lid, so everyone was able to bring them home easily.

What I loved about this Take Home Experiment is that you can use this as their Loot Bag. Or if you wanted to give each child a little something extra, Mad Science offers Loot Bags, Child Sized Lab Coats, T-Shirts, and Gifts that you can add on to your party package as well.

The Rocket Launch was probably the kids favourite part of the show. All the kids were just so excited! They first learned about the rocket design, and the three stages of flight. After that, we took the kids outside, and the birthday boy got to launch the rocket 250 feet in the air at 200 km/h!

Mad Science parties are perfect for children between the ages of 5-12. They do however offer parties for smaller children ages 3-5 as well, just inquire with your local Mad Science location when booking.

The even offer School, and Camp Programs, Daycare and Library Workshops, and Corporate events!

The Mad Scientists were so great with the kids at the party. They got all the kids involved, and made sure everything ran smoothly, and on time. On our way home from the party my son said that this was the best party yet, and I have to agree! Even the parents that stayed loved it, and I think we all learned something from the Mad Science show!
