While in Chicago earlier this month, one of the top things on our list of places to visit was the Shedd Aquarium. We heard so many good reviews on it, and thought it would be a perfect place to take the kids.
The Shedd Aquarium was massive. Much bigger than I expected. So much to see and do- it was awesome! I recommend setting aside at least a 1/2 day when visiting so you can really take your time, and enjoy all that the aquarium has to offer.
They have many exhibits to explore such as the Amazon Rising, Caribbean Reef, Abbott Oceanarium, Polar Play Zone, Waters of the World, At Home on the Great Lakes, Wild Reef and an Amphibians exhibit that just opened.
They have a cute little kids area which my son had so much fun playing in. There was this large submarine that they could all play in, and pretend they were driving it. Around this kids area, they had the penguin exhibit. Next to the exhibit, they built a replica of where the penguins were kept for the kids to play in. They could dress up and be a penguin, and go down the slide. So cute!
I definitely recommend seeing both the 4 -D Experience movie and the Aquatic Show at the Shedd Aquarium. Such an amazing experience!
We saw SpongeBob Squarepants in 4-D. The movie isn’t that long at all – but it’s the experience. Our chairs were vibrating, water was squirting at us and things were flying through the air. It was so cool.
The Aquatic Show was awesome! They have beluga whales, sea lions and dolphins do tricks with their trainers. The trainers also showed us how the animals are cared for everyday.
How gorgeous is this view?! We stopped for lunch at Soundings Café and this was our view! So beautiful. We ate inside because it was so hot that day, but they have a huge patio with this same view as well if you wanted to eat outside.
The Stingray Touch was pretty fun too.
