DIY Christmas Bell Ornament for kids

Note: This post is inspired by my preschool craft back in 1986

I am a very sentimental person.  I have about 4 large bins in my basement full of childhood items that my mom put away for me. I will never part with any of it- everything is so special to me and I am so thankful my mom saved so much of my childhood items. Every year when I start pulling out all the Christmas décor, I always find myself peeking in those bins. I just can’t help myself as it brings back so many great memories.
This bell ornament I still have from 1986 when I was in preschool. I vaguely remember making it. I think it’s so cute and I am so glad that I still have it. I thought it would be really fun to have my son create a similar one for all of his classmates at preschool. (see the sentimental me is coming out again)
I purchased everything from the dollar store so this craft is very affordable. In total, everything cost me only $8 to make 16 bell ornaments-I know super cheap! Hey, if you don’t believe me I can show you my bill.

To decorate the foam cups, I got stickers, pom poms and glitter glue, but you can really use anything you want. Once he decorated each cup, I made a tiny hole at the top to put the wool through. Then I tied a mini bell underneath the cup. That’s it- done!

He had so much fun making them. It took him about an hour to make them all. We still have a lot of foam cups left, so I might go back to the dollar store this week and pick up some more bells so he can make a few more for his other friends and cousin.

We had a great time putting these bell ornaments together and I will cherish that memory forever. To be honest- I kind of got a bit emotional watching him make them. The one on the left is his, and the one on the right is mine. These pictures are definitely going in his baby book so he will have them to look back on. I will also make sure to save one for his childhood bin and hope he will do the same one day with his child.
